About This Product

67 Phonics Worksheets for Older Students is designed to push the student to think of the sounds letter combinations make.  The phonics worksheets can be used to supplement any phonics program.  These worksheets focus on building decoding skills through analyzing phonograms, observing syllable divisions and reinforcing spelling and pronunciation rules.

The phonics worksheets are designed for students in 4th Grade and above.  The majority of words students decode are multisyllable.  Words with three or more syllables are common.  The look is grown-up.  There is intentionally no “cutesy” clipart.

What's Included

This phonics worksheet packet for older students contains 67 phonics worksheets along with answer sheets.

Each worksheet page comes with goals and directions. Older students respond well to having goals "spelled out" - it helps students see that there is a purpose to the exercise; that there are concepts they can grasp that will make reading easier for them; it lets students know that the exercise is not "busy work."

The majority of worksheets have a pronunciation clue or spelling rule in larger font and bold type in the top half of the page. Learning these rules will give the students decoding tools - help them in their journey to becoming successful, independent readers.

The entire packet includes an introduction, suggestions and answers sheets. The total phonics worksheets packet is 84 pages.

Good ideas here, can never have enough activities in your teacher toolkit! I am a teacher, albeit on a year off!, and will be using this when i return to the classroom. Eight Free phonics worksheets, covering cvc words, cvcc words, ‘ck’, ‘ee’/‘oo’, ‘sh’, ‘ar’ and ‘or’ providing valuable back up work to lessons. Great assessment tools. Written for ages 5-6 but can also be used with older children requiring catchup help or those with special needs.

These sheets are compatible with all phonics schemes, however as different schemes introduce sounds at different time, just check that your pupil knows all the necessary digraphs to complete the sheet. For example, the word ‘shark’ has both ‘sh’ and ‘ar’ and so both should have been learnt before expecting the child to read and spell this word.
