Most foods are perishable, they require cold storage to prevent their spoilage, especially meats and seafood like chicken, meat, fish, turkey just to mention a few. This has allowed for this business to be very profitable in this part of the country and is not readily available due to the bad power supply in the country making it necessary but not abundant; hence the demand is higher than the supply.

Prior to starting this business, draw up a business plan to help you navigate a profitable course in terms of your business.

BUSINESS PLAN TEMPLATE FOR COLD ROOM BUSINESS

1.0. Industry Overview

The business is a chip of the whole block of the Refrigerated Storage Industry, meaning sharks in this industry offers other temperature-controlled services (refrigerated warehousing, storage facilities) which may include freezing with blasts and other processes asides food preservation which the cold room is sought for, especially in this part of the country.

The industry saw a surge in the rate at which investors were coming in due to the ban of poultry food importation into the country. And the industry is still very unsaturated even if it is just a chunk of another industry because asides from meat preservation, fish and dairy products preservation are services that can be provided by this industry and also ice block production.

The sizes of the cold room may vary depending on the scale of the business, asides from capital; the market the cold room intends to cater for will also determine its scale. A large-scale cold room will seek to offer its services to wholesalers, it will need to include packaging and importation of the items it will be preserving for wholesale in its bid. A small-scale cold room on the other hand will seek to retail its services and will only sell to its neighborhood.

Securing a space, maybe a warehouse (for large scale) would be necessary and also provide a constant supply of power then install needed facilities, also you have to consider the proximity of your cold room to the point where you will be getting your products from.

2.0. Executive Summary

Icyy Cold Room and Frozen Food Items is a registered cold room business that will be based in Sango Otta in Ogun State.  The location was well sought considering it being close to the border and also the market potential in the location is huge, the area is home to a lot of residents and other small businesses. Although we will concern ourselves with our immediate environment, this will not hinder our progression towards being known across the borders of Ogun state as we will work hard and ensure we extend our tentacles deep into Lagos state and other states in the South West region with our roots running deeply at our starting point.

As a business just starting out, we have obtained all permits and licenses at all tiers, we have the zeal to go the extra mile without breaking any laws of the nation and also to hire efficient and hardworking and dedicated individuals that will help push this business to the summit.

Our goal is to position Icyy as the best in the industry when it comes to procuring food preservation services ensuring impeccable services, swift delivery, quality maintenance, cold delivery services and hygiene. This might seem like building castles in the air but with hard work, determination, and feasible plans, this is very achievable and is far from a shot in the dark.

3.0. Products and Services

The importance of having quality products and services should not be undermined in any business and it is not undermined here at Icyy. Following the rules, regulations and policies set by concerned bodies in the country, we have the intention of making profits from this line of business at the same time offering the best and ensuring wellness by making sure hygiene is our utmost priority. A list of products we will be offering will include;

4.0. Our Business Structure

A cold room business will work just fine with a handful of employees and few skilled and trained personnel who would handle technical issues and an inventory manager and also an accountant. But in our mission to build a top-flight cold room, we have plans to employ competent hands and get all hands on deck. The following positions will be available at Icyy Cold Room;

  • Chief Executive Officer
  • Cold Room Manager
  • Human Resources Manager
  • Accountants
  • Customer Services Personnel
  • Technician(s)
  • Sales and Marketing Manager
  • Information Technologist

5.0. SWOT Analysis

After employing the services of a business consultant, we came up with a SWOT analysis for our business. Together we were able to examine the potential of the business idea after looking through our business concept together, also we were able to assess ourselves to ensure we were fledged to run a standard cold room that will not be shut out by competitors.

Below is an assessment we deduced;

The strength of Icyy Cold Room lies in the proposed distribution network and additional services it will offer which includes cold delivery options, impeccable hygiene and customer feedback. Also the relationship that we seek to establish with other frozen food companies whether big or small will help cement our stand in the industry

The likes of our business can be noticed in the area we are setting up base due to factors mentioned earlier, so this is a major weakness.

Opportunities

Opportunities are unlimited to the business itself and this is also bolstered because of the location we are setting up, although there are competitors in the same are but as we said we harness our strengths to help us garner the trust of consumers.

Threats are unlikely as food is very essential, but in the case of an economic downturn, we might be affected, although purchasing power might decline this will not amount to a total shutdown in the consumption of meat.

Also one of the threats are our competitors which we will not be much of a threat once we have rallied the consumers to our side.

Another set of threats will be unfavorable government policies.

Our Target Market

Retailing or distributing frozen foods has a huge customer base. The products we offer can’t just be targeted on a particular demographic. Then again, even if everybody eats meat, not everybody buys it directly from the cold room so here is a list of our target points, if we are to be specific with the scale at which we will be operating;

  • Restaurants
  • Frozen Food Retailers

  • List of the Best Marketing Ideas For Your Cold Storage Service:

How to Write a Cold Storage Business Plan in 7 Steps:

1. describe the purpose of your cold storage business..

The first step to writing your business plan is to describe the purpose of your cold storage business. This includes describing why you are starting this type of business, and what problems it will solve for customers. This is a quick way to get your mind thinking about the customers’ problems. It also helps you identify what makes your business different from others in its industry.

It also helps to include a vision statement so that readers can understand what type of company you want to build.

Here is an example of a purpose mission statement for a cold storage business:

Our mission at Cold Storage is to provide large scale cold storage solutions to businesses and individuals in need of efficient, reliable, and secure storage of frozen, refrigerated, and dry goods. We are committed to offering high-quality services that meet the needs of our clients while adhering to the highest standards of safety, security, and environmental responsibility.

2. Products & Services Offered by Your Cold Storage Business.

The next step is to outline your products and services for your cold storage business.

When you think about the products and services that you offer, it's helpful to ask yourself the following questions:

  • What is my business?
  • What are the products and/or services that I offer?
  • Why am I offering these particular products and/or services?
  • How do I differentiate myself from competitors with similar offerings?
  • How will I market my products and services?

You may want to do a comparison of your business plan against those of other competitors in the area, or even with online reviews. This way, you can find out what people like about them and what they don’t like, so that you can either improve upon their offerings or avoid doing so altogether.

3. Build a Creative Marketing Stratgey.

If you don't have a marketing plan for your cold storage business, it's time to write one. Your marketing plan should be part of your business plan and be a roadmap to your goals.

A good marketing plan for your cold storage business includes the following elements:

Target market

  • Who is your target market?
  • What do these customers have in common?
  • How many of them are there?
  • How can you best reach them with your message or product?

Customer base

  • Who are your current customers?
  • Where did they come from (i.e., referrals)?
  • How can their experience with your cold storage business help make them repeat customers, consumers, visitors, subscribers, or advocates for other people in their network or industry who might also benefit from using this service, product, or brand?

Product or service description

  • How does it work, what features does it have, and what are its benefits?
  • Can anyone use this product or service regardless of age or gender?
  • Can anyone visually see themselves using this product or service?
  • How will they feel when they do so? If so, how long will the feeling last after purchasing (or trying) the product/service for the first time?

Competitive analysis

  • Which companies are competing with yours today (and why)?
  • Which ones may enter into competition with yours tomorrow if they find out about it now through word-of-mouth advertising; social media networks; friends' recommendations; etc.)
  • What specific advantages does each competitor offer over yours currently?

Marketing channels

  • Which marketing channel do you intend to leverage to attract new customers?
  • What is your estimated marketing budget needed?
  • What is the projected cost to acquire a new customer?
  • How many of your customers do you instead will return?

4. Write Your Operational Plan.

Next, you'll need to build your operational plan. This section describes the type of business you'll be running, and includes the steps involved in your operations.

In it, you should list:

  • The equipment and facilities needed
  • Who will be involved in the business (employees, contractors)
  • Financial requirements for each step
  • Milestones & KPIs
  • Location of your business
  • Zoning & permits required for the business

What equipment, supplies, or permits are needed to run a cold storage business?

Equipment needed to run a Cold Storage business includes cold storage freezers and/or refrigerators, a commercial walk-in cooler, a commercial freezer, and cold storage racking systems for storing frozen or refrigerated goods. Supplies needed include thermometers, plastic wrap and pallets for staging items during loading and unloading. Additionally, a business license is required, along with applicable permits from the local municipality or health department to operate a cold storage business.

5. Management & Organization of Your Cold Storage Business.

The second part of your cold storage business plan is to develop a management and organization section.

This section will cover all of the following:

  • How many employees you need in order to run your cold storage business. This should include the roles they will play (for example, one person may be responsible for managing administrative duties while another might be in charge of customer service).
  • The structure of your management team. The higher-ups like yourself should be able to delegate tasks through lower-level managers who are directly responsible for their given department (inventory and sales, etc.).
  • How you’re going to make sure that everyone on board is doing their job well. You’ll want check-ins with employees regularly so they have time to ask questions or voice concerns if needed; this also gives you time to offer support where necessary while staying informed on how things are going within individual departments too!

6. Cold Storage Business Startup Expenses & Captial Needed.

This section should be broken down by month and year. If you are still in the planning stage of your business, it may be helpful to estimate how much money will be needed each month until you reach profitability.

Typically, expenses for your business can be broken into a few basic categories:

Startup Costs

Startup costs are typically the first expenses you will incur when beginning an enterprise. These include legal fees, accounting expenses, and other costs associated with getting your business off the ground. The amount of money needed to start a cold storage business varies based on many different variables, but below are a few different types of startup costs for a cold storage business.

Running & Operating Costs

Running costs refer to ongoing expenses related directly with operating your business over time like electricity bills or salaries paid out each month. These types of expenses will vary greatly depending on multiple variables such as location, team size, utility costs, etc.

Marketing & Sales Expenses

You should include any costs associated with marketing and sales, such as advertising and promotions, website design or maintenance. Also, consider any additional expenses that may be incurred if you decide to launch a new product or service line. For example, if your cold storage business has an existing website that needs an upgrade in order to sell more products or services, then this should be listed here.

7. Financial Plan & Projections

A financial plan is an important part of any business plan, as it outlines how the business will generate revenue and profit, and how it will use that profit to grow and sustain itself. To devise a financial plan for your cold storage business, you will need to consider a number of factors, including your start-up costs, operating costs, projected revenue, and expenses.

Here are some steps you can follow to devise a financial plan for your cold storage business plan:

  • Determine your start-up costs: This will include the cost of purchasing or leasing the space where you will operate your business, as well as the cost of buying or leasing any equipment or supplies that you need to start the business.
  • Estimate your operating costs: Operating costs will include utilities, such as electricity, gas, and water, as well as labor costs for employees, if any, and the cost of purchasing any materials or supplies that you will need to run your business.
  • Project your revenue: To project your revenue, you will need to consider the number of customers you expect to have and the average amount they will spend on each visit. You can use this information to estimate how much money you will make from selling your products or services.
  • Estimate your expenses: In addition to your operating costs, you will need to consider other expenses, such as insurance, marketing, and maintenance. You will also need to set aside money for taxes and other fees.
  • Create a budget: Once you have estimated your start-up costs, operating costs, revenue, and expenses, you can use this information to create a budget for your business. This will help you to see how much money you will need to start the business, and how much profit you can expect to make.
  • Develop a plan for using your profit: Finally, you will need to decide how you will use your profit to grow and sustain your business. This might include investing in new equipment, expanding the business, or saving for a rainy day.

Okay, so we have considered all the requirements for starting a cold storage company . We have analyzed and drafted a sample cold storage marketing plan backed up by actionable guerrilla marketing ideas for cold storage companies. So let’s proceed to the business planning section.

Why Start a Cold Storage Business?

If you live in the united states and are interested in owning a business portfolio in any industry and you have not made up your mind on what kind of business to engage in, then you should consider starting your own cold storage unit business.

Although, you can also start a cold storage business in London or some cities in Canada and Europe, but the United States of America still remains the only country where this type of business is indeed a big industry.

What you need to do before venturing in into cold storage business is to carry out a survey to know if such business is needed in the area you intend establishing it, and how many people will be willing to pay to store their stuff for a short period.

No smart business man or women would want to invest his or her money into a business venture that they aren’t sure will fetch them money.

Also, you will need to have reasons why you want to be in the line of business you have chosen. That means there has to be a real connection between you and the people whose problems you want to solve. This could be categorized as the vision of the business as you will see in the sample business plan as you forge ahead.

You can write your own business plan by fixing in the appropriate details of your business after you have gone through the sample cold storage business plan template below.

A Sample Cold Storage Business Plan Template

1. industry overview.

Cold storage business is classified under the refrigerated storage industry and operators in this industry include establishments that operate refrigerated warehousing and storage facilities. Temperature-controlled services include blast freezing and tempering.

Establishments that primarily store furs for trade are included in this industry. These furs are used as raw materials for the manufacturing of garments and personal accessories such as bags and shoes.

In the United States, over the past five years to 2018, the Refrigerated Storage industry has benefited from consumer spending levels and growing trade activity, which have increased the volume of goods being shipped. Additionally, although some downstream companies decided to manage their own warehouse facilities instead of outsourcing these functions to industry operators, this trend has not substantially hindered industry performance.

Over the five years to 2023, industry performance will likely be bolstered by continued growth in the total value of US trade activity, as well as continued improvements in the level of domestic consumer spending. The Refrigerated Storage industry is indeed a large industry and pretty much thriving in developed countries such as United States of America, Canada, United Kingdom, Germany, Australia and Italy et al.

Statistics has it that in the United States of America alone, there are about 2,203 licensed and registered cold storage cum refrigerated storage facilities responsible for employing about 55,663 employees and the industry rakes in a whooping sum of $6 billion annually with an annual growth rate projected at 5.4 percent between 2013 and 2018.

Americold Logistics LLC, Lineage Logistics and Preferred Freezer Services are the market leaders in this industry; they can boast of having the lion market share in the industry.

Businesses in the Refrigerated Storage industry provide a variety of warehousing and transportation services to retailers, manufacturers, wholesalers and other relevant customers. A recent report published by IBISWorld shows that the storage of goods is expected to generate 70.6 percent of industry revenue in 2018.

Generally, wholesalers, retailers, importers and exporters outsource the storage operations of their supply chain to specialized third-party refrigerated storage operators, either on an as-needed basis or by contract.

These storage services can differ substantially in terms of the duration and temperature required, ranging from the short-term storage of fresh produce in tepid conditions to the sub-zero storage of ice cream and other frozen products for extended periods of time.

The entry barriers for new operators in this industry can vary significantly by state and city. Overall, barriers are moderate, but are increasing across the United States. Costs to purchase or lease of land or facility vary across regions and are a major barrier to entry.

These expenses can be more manageable, though, in well-established, highly populated cities, whereas land costs can be significantly lower in smaller cities and suburban regions. There are several regulatory requirements that must be met by companies in the cold storage business. The most difficult of these generally relates to zoning and land development conditions.

Over and above, a cold storage business in the United States of America can be started by anybody as long as you have the startup capital to acquire a property and then design the property to fit into the purpose you want to use it for.

We hired the services of Dr. Pius Cesar, a HR and Business consultant with bias in business structuring to help us conduct SWOT analysis for our company and he did a pretty good job for us. Here is a of the result we got from the SWOT analysis that was conducted on behalf of Sub ZERO® Cold Storage Company, LLC, Dallas – Texas.

One of the obvious strengths that will definitely stand as a plus for Sub ZERO® Cold Storage Company is the fact that our facility is centrally located in a commercial hub area in Dallas – Texas; our location and high level of security is in fact our major strength.

We equally have a team that can give our clients value for their money; a team that are trained and equipped to pay attention to details and to deliver excellent services. Lastly our service package is one of the best that anybody living in Dallas – Texas can get; it is cheap and affordable.

We critically looked into our Business model and we were able to identify two major weakness. One is the fact that we are a new business and the second is the fact that we may not have the financial resources required to match up with existing and well established cold storage facilities when it comes to acquiring large facilities in choice areas.

  • Opportunities:

We are centrally located in one of the busiest areas in Dallas – Texas and we are open to all the available opportunities that the city has to offer. We will be open 24 hours in a day during weekends (Fridays to Sundays) and from 6:00 am to 12 midnights from Mondays to Thursdays giving us the advantage to leverage on any available opportunity.

Some of the threats that are likely going to confront Sub ZERO® Cold Storage Company are unfavorable government policies , demographic/social factors, downturn in the economy which is likely going to affect consumers spending and lastly, the emergence of new competitors within the same location where our cold storage facility is located.

Also note that rent for any storage space that is past due will have to be collected, and if there is any issue with the rental payments, the necessary legal processes will have to be initiated to remedy the issue. Note that this may involve turning the account over to collectors, filing court papers, or giving eviction notices, but you will have to consult the local laws and rental contract agreement.

b. Where do you intend to expand to and why?

Being a business that targets healthcare facilities, we will always expand to cities we believe have the most hospitals, medical centers, clinics, physicians, and surgeons per capita. Truth be told, all cities are not created equal, so we intend to expand to these US cities;

  • Honolulu, Hawaii
  • Baltimore, MD
  • Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
  • Louis, Missouri
  • Plano, Texas
  • Lexington, Kentucky
  • Orlando, Florida
  • San Jose, California

At PCS, our exit plan will involve handing the business down to the children of our founding members. We strongly believe that this business exit plan is suitable for us as it wouldn’t need extensive interference or involvement of external parties and it is also one of the easiest and most direct options when done right.

A severe rock fall in the upper jointed Reefal Limestone unit which represents the main foundation rock bed of Umm Sid plateau .The main causative factors of rock fall is the movement of the limestone blocks under the effect of deferential erosion (undercut) of the underneath sandstone unit. Photogeologic mapping and Geological Field measurements have been carried out for the Umm Sid plateau to investigate the factors controlling the rock fall of the uppermost layers of the plateau. The geological field measurements as well as geological disk studies are used to produce a model representing the joint orientations, stability model and failure mechanism geologic model. Kinematic analysis of the acquired data indicated that the topmost unit of the plateau is affected by three main sets of joints E-W, NE-SW and NW-SW trends. The hard Reefal Limestone unit is underlying with relatively soft sandstone unit. The sand stone unit is intercalated with marl and clays that increase the potentiality of deferential erosion. Kinematic analyses of the measured joints were studied by using Hoek and Bray failure methods (2004), Dips program Version 5.1.8 and RocPlane Version 2.0. The site observation and measurements indicated that the rock falls is seriously active and accordingly the scarp edge retreat and that may lead to a dangerous impact on the existing hotels and resorts located at this plateau. International literature deeply investigates the contribution of Knowledge Management in the process of cost rationalization in public universities to achieve public value through performance management strategies. What emerges is a literature gap in relation to specific analysis concerning the impact of the “rationalization” of the companies owned by public universities and the sustainability of the investments made in universities, especially during a “pandemic period”. This work, through a qualitative analysis of the planning documents provided by Italian universities on the subject regarding "rationalization of investee companies", aims to highlight the contribution of knowledge management on internal planning on the rationalization processes put in place by universities with a focus on the “Accountability during emergencies”. The analysis we conducted will show how the rationalization objective is nowadays far from being considered efficient due to a lack in "Kno...

Sample Rage Room Business Plan

Rage room business plan pdf sample.

Emotional problems or imbalance are among the many problems societies have to deal with. Thankfully this problem isn’t unsolvable as there are experts in rage management.

While this is an interesting area, we won’t be focusing on it. Rather we will provide you with a sample rage room business plan to help you start your journey.

This article will provide a general outline that you can use to create your unique plan. Without further delay, we begin thus;

Executive Summary

Vent is a rage room business located in Chicago, Illinois. This city has seen a rise in anger and emotional problems. Little wonder that it has arguably the highest cases of gun violence in the United States. We are a business that seeks to help people vent out their frustrations in a safe environment.

We are a licensed business that offers innovative services in stress and anger management. Our facilities are world-class and include smashing objects. Others are private booths where clients get to cool off while listening to soothing music. Our class sessions are handled by professionals in anger management.

These professionals help clients by encouraging them to release caged feelings of resentment and anger. That way, our clients feel much better with each session. Our courses are designed for maximum impact.

As such, the different sessions all seek to achieve one purpose; helping people vent out their frustrations.

Vision Statement

At Vent, we are driven by one goal which is to tackle a growing emotional pandemic and imbalance. Our new business seeks to grow into a major player within a decade. Playing on the big stage means the opening of additional outlets or rage rooms across the city of Chicago and beyond.

Mission Statement

The need for rage rooms has grown due to several reasons. We are poised to take advantage of this trend by providing far-reaching anger management solutions to our clients. Our sights are set on the bigger picture. Thus, we plan on growing Vent into a respected national brand in the long term.

Our Services

Our stress relief services range from the smashing of mannequins, vases, alarm clocks and all sorts of household items. We also offer custom room setups. These are requested by clients who want to take out their anger around familiar situations.

Our clients can also request the mannequins of politicians to smash on.

Capital Requirement

At Vent, we seek to expand our operations. The last 2 years have been challenging but rewarding. Within this time, modest gains were made.

However, we are looking at the bigger picture which is our expansion plans. We’ve seen sharp demand for our services over the past year. This is in addition to other strategic locations where we seek to open our 3 more rage rooms.

Being the first phase of our expansion plans, we hope to raise an investment sum of $800,000. Half of this will be sourced through a bank loan facility with an annual interest rate of 10%. While the other half will be sourced from savings meant for this purpose.

SWOT Analysis

The modest gains made over the past 2 years haven’t been without challenges. We have taken advantage of the opportunities as well as identify areas we need to pay more attention to. This data was obtained from an assessment of our activities since we commenced operations.

The following information summarizes the findings

i. Strength

We have deliberately chosen a location known for rising violence and conflicts fueled by stress. The result has so far been amazing. We are steadily building trust as well as a brand known for world-class rage room services.

Our workforce is made up of experts in human behavioral patterns, emotional management, and emotional intelligence. These experts are bringing their expertise and experience to create an excellent and respected brand.

ii. Weakness

Our weakness stems from the fact that we are a new business. Another is our financial capacity. This restricts the scope of our operations. We aren’t able to function at the highest levels. Our growth drive is also dependent on the availability of adequate funds.

We hope these weaknesses will be addressed by our current expansion plans.

iii. Opportunities

The city of Chicago is ripe for our services. Lately, there has been a rise in anger-related crime of which gun-related violence is most prominent. This is an opportunity for our business to grow by providing the needed help and safe spaces people can vent out their anger.

The steady growth in client enrollment is a testament to the fact that we need to open up more rage rooms in strategic areas.

iv. Threats

Our rage room business is threatened in the sense that bigger competitors may plan on entering our territory before our expansion plans are fully executed. This will mean stiffer competition as well as having limited capital to compete effectively.

Financial Projections

While we plan on expanding our rage room business, we also are projecting a significant jump in our earnings over the next three years. We have done the math and it promises to even exceed the numbers below. However, this will depend on the work we put into marketing our services.

  • First Financial Year                                $250,000.00.
  • Second Financial Year                           $600,000.00
  • Third Financial Year                               $800,000.00

Competitive Advantage

The rage room business landscape is quite competitive. This wasn’t so some 7 years ago. However, we are equal to the task as we seek to improve our service offerings. Currently, we are the only rage room business that offers custom room setups. What this means is that our clients get to vent their anger in a “familiar” surrounding.

Marketing Strategies

At present, we seek to project our strengths as much as we can. This way, clients get to go through the Vent rage room experience. Word of mouth marketing is also an important part of our marketing strategies. So far, this has largely been successful. We have included a reward system for our referral programs.

Social media, as well as the print and electronic media, are other ways we intend to drive our business to great heights.

This is a rage room business plan summary you can use to create your unique plan. You must look into every possible way your business will find and maintain steady growth. Your level of dedication to its implementation will be the final push to its eventual sustained growth.

In Word, you can create a form that others can fill out and save or print.  To do this, you will start with baseline content in a document, potentially via a form template.  Then you can add content controls for elements such as check boxes, text boxes, date pickers, and drop-down lists. Optionally, these content controls can be linked to database information.  Following are the recommended action steps in sequence.

Show the Developer tab

In Word, be sure you have the Developer tab displayed in the ribbon.  (See how here:  Show the developer tab .)

Open a template or a blank document on which to base the form

You can start with a template or just start from scratch with a blank document.
